The massive Colossus of the Appennines was built by Giambologna and used to have decorated grottoes inside and underneath. Today, the spaces still exist but the frescoes and decorations have been lost over time.
Ever hear of Italy's famous Medici Family? The were a fairly prominent clan. How prominent? Medici is where we get the word MEDICINE. That's how prominent. In 1568, Francesco I de' Medici built this park on his private estate. He commissioned Giambologna to create this giant figure titled Il Colosso dell'Appennino.
